Community Health & Housing Services
We launched a new website, digital presence, and content strategy for a large housing and health services nonprofit.
Over 6 months, we worked with nonprofit staff and members of their South L.A. community to create a website that serves the needs of everyone in the organization’s ecosystem.
Working closely with nonprofit staff, community members, and contractors, we developed a style guide and color scheme; conducted user research and usability testing in English and Spanish; and developed a new website and digital communications strategy to meet the needs of a growing organization.
Esperanza Community Housing provides free and low cost rental options, free healthcare and asthma mitigation help, and free community events.
My goal was to make these services easy to find and access, so users can get the help they need.
Before: Accessing the “current vacancies” brought up a Word document with out-of-date information
After: All available units are clearly displayed, with information about eligibility and direct access to apply.
I implemented custom code to organize the 30+ staff in the nonprofit. This allows staff and board members to be organized by department, while each can have their own page as well.
After website development, I trained the organizational staff on web design best practices, accessibility, and technical website tools.
The participants left with the tools to make updates to the website, as well as a fundamental understanding of spacing, color, and how to design for different accessibility needs.
